How to Become Staff
Becoming staff is not an achievement or a reward. It is an unpaid job. So what we look for are people who want to do the job, rather than people who are looking for an achievement or a reward, or who just want to have more power over others.
Step 1: Show that You Want to Help the Server
We look for players who want to work to help the server. You can show this by doing things like:
- Helping new players understand how the server works.
- Answering questions in chat or on Discord.
- Helping players when staff are not available.
- Politely explaining rules to other players when needed.
- Reporting problems or rule-breaking by making tickets in Discord.
- Providing clear descriptions and evidence when you report a problem.
These actions show that you are willing to do the work necessary to help the server be a better place for everyone.
Step 2: Show that You Can Handle Staff Responsibilities Correctly
Staff decisions must be accurate and fair. Incorrect staff decisions and unwarranted punishments cause harm just like rule-breaking does. Good staff members must be careful to not cause harm.
Because of this, it is important to show that you understand the rules and how enforcement works, that fairness and accuracy are your goals, and that you are willing to do the work necessary to achieve fairness and accuracy.
To do this:
- Read and understand the rules and sentencing guidelines.
- Do not report things that are not rule violations or which are not causing a problem.
- Stay calm during conflicts and show respect for all players.
- When creating tickets, fill them out accurately and honestly.
- Include useful evidence such as
/co i information, screenshots, videos, or voice chat recordings.
- Make sure your reports clearly explain what happened and what you did to ensure an accurate investigation.
- If you are unsure about something, ask questions instead of guessing.
When staff see that your reports are clear, accurate, and reliable, it shows that you have good judgment and can be trusted with more responsibility.
Step 3: Be Patient and Consistent
Many players want to become staff as an achievement, but lose interest once the achievement is made. We are looking for players who just want to help for the sake of helping, not because they want to be promoted.
You should expect this to be a long process. Giving someone staff commands means trusting them with the ability to cause serious harm if staff privileges are misused. So the server owners must be very careful in who they choose to trust.
